Here’s a new track by Melbourne-based found sound wrangler Isis Aquarium. It’s from a tape called Molten Sulfur due later this month through Habitat Tapes, which is a new tape label also based in Melbourne. Isis Aquarium is spacious ambient music which apparently utilises field recordings, occasional synths and a whole lot of sonic phenomenon I can’t trace to any particular source. It has a weird cultish atmosphere which places it in a much stranger / eerier place than a lot of current new age fetishists, but it’s not really dark. It’s calm.
Habitat Tapes also has tapes forthcoming by the likes of the always excellent Tim Coster and Heart Flew, among others, so it’s worth keeping an eye on the label.
