Foots is the work of Melbourne resident Patrick McMahon, and in his own words the project “co-opts the rhythms of grime and footwork with the instrumentation and negative space of minimalist rock.” It’s an interesting combination, and in practice it’s a lot more minimal than you might immediately expect. ‘Summon Sine’ sounds a bit drab and lifeless on first listen, but let it run on repeat a couple of times and the idea starts to sink in. While the more electronic influences are readily apparent, the way they’re executed with live rock instruments is pretty clever.
