Miles Brown, one part of Melbourne group Night Terrors and classically trained thereminist, will release his debut 7 inch single Electrics on February 3 through it Records. While Brown has been recording solo, theremin focused compositions for a while, ‘Electrics’ (embedded below) marks a shift in the direction of spiky minimal synth pop. It wouldn’t have been out of place on the sadly finished Nihilistic Orbs label: it conjures a strange mood somewhere between the bleak digital coldness of The Normal and Gary Numan’s embracing melodicism.

The B-Side ‘Night Time‘ is also available to stream, and shows another, emphatically less minimal side to Brown’s pop approach. Think of a more limber and aggressive Forces, or even The Presets. With theremin.

Electrics will be available exclusively from the it Records website in an edition of 100 numbered, transparent yellow vinyl. Pre-orders are available now. The label is off to a great start: releases from Slug Guts offshoot Prolife, Liam Kenny (Bitch Prefect, The Friendsters), Little Desert and The Metronomes are all forthcoming. Brown will launch his single on February 22 at The Tote with Forces, Nun, Kelular and Prolife.
